Interested in Freemasonry?

Freemasonry is a rewarding experience and membership is open to all men aged 18 years or over. We welcome new members, we are a Scouting Lodge, but all are welcome.

What is the purpose of Freemasonry?

Freemasonry has a number of aims, as do its members. At its core it is a fraternal organisation, that seeks to do good in the world and to improve its members.

What does a Freemason Lodge do?

The Masonic Lodge is the basic organisational unit of Freemasonry. The Lodge meets regularly to conduct the usual formal business of any small organisation (pay bills, organise social and charitable events, elect new members, etc.).

Who can be a Freemason?

All men aged 21 and above are welcome to join regardless of ethnic group, political views or economic standing or religion, although initiates are expected to have a faith in a supreme being. This is a Scouting Lodge but we welcome members from all walks of life.

How can one become a member?

Members can be recommended by other lodge members, or you can put themselves forward and can use the contact page on this website to start on your amazing journey into freemasonry.

Do i need to be of a particular religion?

The fraternity requires its members to have a belief in a Supreme Being, but the fraternity itself is not affiliated with any religion. Freemasonry is one of the world’s oldest and largest non-religious, non-political, fraternal and charitable organisation. It teaches self-knowledge through participation in a progression of ceremonies. Members are expected to be of high moral standing and are encouraged to speak openly about Freemasonry.

What it costs to become a Freemason?

There is a one off Initiation fee of £60 and a United Grand Lodge of England (UGLE) registration fee of £72.60. The annual membership fee for Venturer Lodge is £150.00 a year this can be paid by standing order to spread the cost. We have a festive board after meeting in the temple, the cost of this is £25.00. The dinner includes a starter, main course (incl. vegetarian) and dessert, wine with the meal and a coffee to finish. If you invite any Masonic guests, it is normal that, as their host, you may pay their dining fee, which is £25.00, you don’t have to be well-off to become a Freemason
